Shows listing preview

Postby erik. on Wed Jun 17, 2009 12:01 am

Okay guys, looking for just a quick bit of feed back. I have finally figured out and gotten a full (Past/Present/Future) shows listing up in a database format and come up with a modified page to read the data on the fly. You can find it here: link removed

Before I update all the site links with this new link, I thought I'd get your opinions if the formatting/presentation looks okay. I've done away with the Google map images, as well as the need to click on the event to display additional details as they are on the currently linked shows page. I liked these things but it did feel a bit clunky with them too. Right now, the page has Upcoming dates first, followed by Past dates. Eventually I will likely break these into seperate pages, and hopefully further information can be added to the Past dates data like links to reviews, setlists, audio, video, pics, etc.

As a note I used the listing I had compiled and compared it with Doug's from the former official to fill in gaps and pick up on inconsistencies between the two. So thanks to him for putting it out there for us in the first place. I have tried to be thorough with this compilation, though I don't know right off hand where many of the ones in his list that weren't in mind came from to verify. I have noted several cancelled shows, removed duplicates, corrected dates, etc. to reflect what I feel and find to be the more accurate info. And to me this is the most accurate listing to date.

Thanx!

What I've seen looks great, the past shows is good as there is less information, and the information on the current shows is sufficient. Well done! :D

Thanks Jack!

Also for consideration: link removed
In this I have moddifed the format for the past shows a bit further, seperating it by year. This may be a nicer way to present this.

Anyone else feel that the headings (Date, Venue/Event) on the current listings is un-needed now?

Also load times - long, short, zippy, slow, 'bout the same - hows it going, uh loading?

That's better, with the shows seperated by year. Loads time is normal, pretty good actually.

Yes Erik, the format with the shows separated by year is much better in my opinion. Good job.

It's nice to see that list back. My vote also goes to the shows2.php version. Much clearer and easier to look at! Good job again mister Administrator!

Well thanks to the 3 who chimed in with their thoughts. Being that the site is for everyone else's benefit more so than mine, I don't think it hurts to get opinions from those that use it. Anyway, decisions have been made and links have been updated to reflect a new [Current] Shows listing as well as a Past Shows list. I'm pleased with the results, and continuing to proceed with other things.

Thanks for asking us too. :)

One question, will the music page have Tony Scalzo's, Miles Zuniga's and Joey Shuffield's music too like it used to?

Hi guys,

I don't have much to add here Erik, other than I think you have done a terrific job whichever format you go with. Meant to log on and say that a few weeks ago but for whatever reason, I didn't.

I remember on the old 2004 board with the red background, I posted a set list of the London Water Rats show, but that will be lost now to the sands of time.
My Fastball shows:
12 October 2000, King Tut's Wah-Wah Hut, Glasgow, Scotland (oh to be 18 again)
24 June 2004, Water Rats, London, England (acoustic, and rather lovely)
17 February 2008, Austin Marathon finish, Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas (it was hot)
